When I started at Zadro, I didn’t have much of a social footprint, I didn’t have much knowledge about how to use social for business and I had no idea about advertising.

Over the past three years I have made it my personal mission to learn everything I can about social media for business, stay abreast of the constantly shifting rules of the game and hone my skills to ensure this is a channel that can deliver results for my clients. I have attended seminars and webinars, I’ve read blogs and articles, I’ve experimented with social pages to find out what works and what doesn’t, I’ve learnt a lot!

So, in true Zadro knowledge sharing spirit, here are the three most valuable things I’ve learnt:

1. Subscribe to good social watchers and actually read them!

There have been drastic changes to the different social media channels over the last few years and staying up to date on what’s happening is so important! Rather than try to keep an eye on all the channels and all the changes, make things easier for yourself and keep an eye on one or two good social watchers, my favourite is Social Media Knowledge – they haven’t let me down yet.

2. Don’t be afraid to experiment

What works for some, won’t work for others… Every business has different needs, audiences, and abilities. It’s about answering the 5 W’s to find your starting place and then trial and error to find what works best for your business. The good news is, you can’t go too far wrong and you can change your plan of attack relatively quickly to get back on track.

3. Set realistic goals

It’s easier to say than to do but setting realistic short and long-term goals for your social media will drive your team and your content. Setting goals also means you will know when you have succeeded – don’t forget to celebrate the wins (no matter how small), it will encourage your team!

There are many free tools you can utilise to report on social results, including the analytic tools within the social channels themselves. Analytics are important to track engagement, reach and report on the progress of your page and posts. The results will also help to guide your future social media plans. Having worked across the social media of multiple brands the biggest challenge is often learning the brand and the audience.

At the end of the day I say, be dynamic and try new things!
